It’s not uncommon for men and women to benefit from the same type of abdominal exercises. Something like love handles though can be a big problem for men and would need to be addressed with extra attention. Despite the name, there’s very little to love about these flabby humps!
In this article I’ll share 3 powerful ab exercises for men that will help you shred that midsection. These are not necessarily just exercises for abdominal muscles, but also for fat burning in general as this is a key to exposing that six pack.
Forget about abs machines: these exercises will really help you to get ripped.
A great little workout for the obliques
Part of many a martial art and the cause of a lot of pain to anyone unlucky enough to be on the receiving end, this also makes for a great ab exercise, especially for the obliques.
What I’m referring to is the roundhouse kick, as its known in English. Now, if you have not done any form of martial arts, or at least no kicking arts, it could take a week or two of practice to just get this kick right. You can simply kick at knee height for a start and gradually work your way up to waist height, which is where you want to be.
Keep at it until you can do a minimum of 50 kicks per leg. This kick is a great fitness and strength builder and works right from your shoulders down to your abs and legs. Make sure your muscles are very loose as it’s easy to injure, for example, your hamstring if you’re not careful.
To shred your midsection
This isn’t really an ab exercise as such, but you need need to burn the fat around your midsection to make your abs visible, and this is great for that.
High intensity sprinting burns fat like few other activities. You can make them even tougher by running uphill or in thick sand. Actively use your arms and shoulders while running. This wil get more of your upper body moving and will help tone your waist.
Hanging rotates
If you can’t do this exercise right away, just get your fitness and strength level up a bit before attempting it. Hang from a pullup bar. Turn your lower body to the left at a 45 degree angle. Bend and lift your knees up against your body, then swing your lower body until it’s facing 45 degrees to the other side and lower your legs. Repeat the exercise to the other side.
To add more difficulty to this when it becomes easy, lift your legs straight out in front of you instead of bending your knees.
And that’s it – 3 great ab exercises for men that will burn fat and shrink the obliques while also strengthening your body.
