July 28th, 2008 by admin

We know it’s a plant-based diet, but how much emphasis on starches versus veggies? Two medical giants, John McDougall MD and Joel Fuhrman MD, discuss and debate the question.

I just switched to a japanese diet. There is a good balance of starch and vegs and fruit in this diet. I never limit myself. I do eat smaller portions, and have eliminated dairy. I have a huge acne problem. I have also read that seaweed is really good for you. I eat a lot of it now. It seems to be helping. I am slowly droping weight, and I have more energy!

Read the books by Dr. Mercola, Dr.Rosedale and Dr. Diana Schwarzbein to understand metabolism and insulin resistance. Starches(e.g.,potatoes) turn into sugar; sugar raises insulin levels and insulin signals the body to store fat. People have unique metabolisms:some individuals handle greater carbo or glycemic loads; others will have spikes in blood glucose, increased insulin levels, develop insulin resistance and risk getting diabetes.

    1) high protein/fat diet leads to ketosis - when there is little or no carbohydrate source, glycolysis doesn’t happen. normally glycolysis generates pyruvate and oxoloacetate for the citric acid cycle. thus high protein/fat diet depletes your body of oxoloacetate, leading to ketosis.

    2) the brain can only use glucose as an energy source, glucose obviously only come from carbohydrates, not protein or fat. undoubtedly your IQ will drop - it’s a bad idea to do the atkins diet before an exam.

And until what age did they live?500?285?Something biblical?I think,it’s just a myth to say, that once people lived more.

2000 years ago they ate lots of bread, wine and fish.

Cavemen were meat eaters , no veg or starch. So why not do a high protein/fat diet ?

obviously, mcdougall is the smartest and wisest in this group of speakers. on the other hand, the likes of douglass graham is not represented. starch or fat? Starch! Starch or low calorie? Starch! starch or refined sugar? Starch! Starch or whole fresh raw fruit sugar? Sugar! Bananas as staples! Cherimoyas, figs, dates, persimmons, sapotes and so forth! We are all tropivores! Tropical Fruit Eater!

Definitely…I would encourage you to add bacon and sausage to that burger as well. If more people started living longer, what would happen to Social Security and Medicare?

Becoming a vegetarian is one of the dumbest things you can do. Beef is a health food.

Sunlight helps us synthesize Vitamin D. Or you can drink milk.

simple simple simple way = how much do you weigh compared to how much you eat. Eat normal but still fat = slow met. Eat anything and stay skinny = HIGH/fast met.

very crude, but hope this helps

The healthiest diet is a vegetarian diet which includes beer, whiskey, rum, tequila, fritos, doritos, and twizlers in abundant amounts.

How do you know if you have a low or high metabolism?

I totally agree with you that veggies and fruits has to be the base. After work, I systematically get fruits and veggies at the supermarket and eat some for dinner and the day after. Cooking and preparing the veggies is the FIRST thing I do when I arrive.

You can’t be fruits and veggies for weight-loss! Eat as much as possible and eat a bit of seeds, chicken and steak.

It’s fantastic we have ways of controlling type 1. Methods have improved to a degree although it’s generally the same as 20 odd years ago. If we donate to JDRF will they pursue cure or treatment? Treatment creates profit cure does not. I would rather cure personally. Dr. Denise L. Faustman is working on a cure and has cured type 1 in mice few years back. Google her name.

Check the effects of cooking, turning soil, chemical fertilizers and pesticides on B12. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.
